Title: Christ after Velàzquez
Medium: oil on wood with gold leaf
Size: 10.5x8.5cm x 2
Year: 2005
Description: Valazquez's
interpretation of the crucifixion, whilst using a universal image of
suffering, is unique. My focus
is on the portrait detail of
Christ as he surrenders to death. I painted these works
traditionally on
a hand-primed wooden panel. The second work
is a monochromatic interpretation of the same oil-painting
detail,
with added gold leaf.
Title: Lucy the 'baby'' ape
Medium: oil on linen
Size: 30.5 cm x 20.5cm
Year: 2005
Description: Thanks to Una
Smyth and the Education Team at Dublin Zoo I was allowed to touch
this little hand-reared primate
in the arms of her Keeper. It
seemed to me from sketching there, that all her public during this
time,
including me, adored her.

Title: The Piéta (after Delacroix)
Medium: oil on wood
Size: 10.5 x 8.5
Description: Discovering
Eugene Delacroix's unique sense of colour and romantic imagery in my
first year of art college and then
later in 1995 chancing upon an exhibition of his travel journals, at
the Institut Du Monde Arabe in Paris, I am often struck by
the
accomplishment of his work.
Title: Man with eyes closed no.3
Medium: oil on board
Size: 15.5cmx15cm
Year: 2006
Description: This portrait and
two more works of a friend in the same series, were inspired by my
seeing Albrecht Durer's
sensitive painting of his father in the
National Gallery of London in 2005. Interested in artistic
influences throughout art history,
I learned that Durer was
also fascinated by Leonardo De Vinci's work.
This painting was exhibited in the RHA Annual open exhibition
in 2006.

by Tracy
Chevalier and the original artwork by Johannes Vermeer born in 1632.
